Nintendo Wii Launching in South Africa

by Ingrid on September 6th, 2007

ImageNews reports are stating that South African gamers will be able to (finally) purchase their very own Wii console in early October.

Although a price has yet to be announced, News24 anticipate that gamers will have to fork out as much as R2700 ($390) to get their hands on a Wii. Even though this price is still well below that of a 60GB PS3 which is priced at R6600 ($920) and a Premium Xbox 360 which is priced at R3699 ($515), it remains to be seen whether gamers will be willing to pay this when they can import the Wii for cheaper. The Wii retails at around R1800 ($249.99) in the US.

It’s about time, I say. It’s only been a year. Of course, with that price tag, importing a Wii might actually turn out to be a cheaper investment.
